HOTEL IBIS DUSSELDORF CITY
Since we have only a day between them, we always try to be on a vacation for our birthdays. This time we've been to Dusseldorf for our 2016 birthday and stayed in the Ibis Hotel Dusseldorf City. We stayed in different branches of Ibis Hotels in different countries and we never be disappointed with the cleanliness, size of the room and the breakfast. Most importantly, the prices of Ibis Hotels are generally the most convenient option for us. If you're traveling on a budget too, but don't want to stay in a hostel, check if there is an ibis in your destination.
They used more vibrant colors and different decals for the lobby and the cafe area but the rooms were quite similar and we felt like home. The cleanliness of the rooms, large lobby and the friendly attitude of the staff made us relaxed and happy.
THE LOBBY
Red and white are the colors of ibis Hotels. They used mostly red color in the lobby along with a modern decoration. Comfy lounges and huge windows that invites the sunshine makes the lobby area a perfect location for the breakfast as well as a nice working hub for digital nomads like us. I don't know if it is the same for you but I love to explore every corner of a hotel since my childhood. There are different parts of the lobby to explore and instagram worthy spots for internet enthusiasts.
Breakfast served in the lobby but you can also order something to eat for lunch or dinner. The items in the menu were mid-priced and quite tasty. We ordered a cup of coffee and made arrangements for our upcoming trip.
THE ROOM
There are 148 rooms in 3 different types (Double bed, two singles and a single). They promote their rooms with sleep-easy and sweet-bed concepts. We couldn't be sure what's the difference but it's a sure thing that we slept well :)
The rooms of Ibis Hotels are quite simple and functional. They have similar architecture, similar design and similar furnishing colors across different branches which provides a familiar environment and it really helps us to maintain a relationship with our room, especially in the long trips. Our room in this hotel was also showing the same characteristics with bright windows.
The trick is white linens; if a hotel uses colored ones, we always suspect the cleanliness of it. The color of the floor and the furniture was harmonious and there was a small wardrobe next to the door with a long dressing mirror. It was well-placed and functional.
There was a small LCD TV just across the bed. Many of the pre-set channels were in German language but still there were some English language channels too. There was a German language magazine on the bottom shelves of the TV stand.
There was an additional bench in the room. We mostly used it to place our suitcase because it is really easy to live in a suitcase rather than to place everything into a wardrobe. There was a work table next to the bench with another mirror which is very helpful for make up.
The bathroom was also little and functional. There were towels, hair dryer, soap, shampoo and body wash. They were not fancy as luxury hotels but still high quality and nice fragrant.
BREAKFAST
We really like the breakfast style of Ibis, they serve traditional and local tastes along with continental breakfast. In a nuthsell; it is suitable for everyone. ibis Hotel Düsseldorf City breakfast was an open buffet breakfast from 06:00 to 10:00 in weekdays and 11:00 in weekends. We loved it because we love late breakfasts. (This was a pre-covid stay, please check it with the hotel.)
There were a number of different breads including whole grain bread and croissants as well as tomatoes, sweet pepper and great number of local cheeses. We didn't expect to have such different types of cheeses, so we loved it.
Additionally different fruits, yogurt, cereal, pre-cooked eggs, ham and bacon were served. The breakfast was far beyond our expectations for an economy class hotel. The only average thing was the tea but as you know, it's hard to satisfy Turkish people about tea :D
If life doesn't give you good tea, try coffee. There was a huge coffee machine and it was quite tasty. In the breakfast area you can either sit to the tables or to the desk. In any case, it feels like you're having your breakfast at a nice restaurant under the trees. P.S. You can have waffles too.
LOCATION
ibis Hotel Dusseldorf City is just 200 metres to Dusseldorf Hauptbaunhof, the main train station of the city. You can reach Alstadt (Old Town) within 20 minutes by walking. Dusseldorf is such a green city that it is an easy walking through the parks and by the river. According to us, ibis Hotel Dusseldorf City location is very good since you can directly reach it from the airport with a short train trip. Being close to the central train station has another perk that you can find everything you need from the shops in the station.
FINAL WORDS
ibis budget hotel Dusseldorf City was an ideal hotel for our Dusseldorf trip. It was suitable both for the tourists and businessperson. You can also stay here as a family since it was clean and safe. When it is compared to other places to stay in Dusseldorf, the price was quite a catch.
THINGS WE LIKE
We loved the decoration, the spacious feeling and the daylight of the lobby. The breakfast was beyond our expectations. Friendly and helpful approach of the staff was another plus.
COULD BE BETTER
They had a "Pillow Menu" but when we requested a pillow, the staff told us that they don't have it in their inventory. Lastly, a kettle in the room would be superb.
PRICE
Moderate.
