Sri Lanka is a magical island with its magnificent beaches, green, tropic forests, delicious food culture and mesmerizing history. We loved our Sri Lanka trip from Colombo to Kandy. We tried to put together our experiences and prepare detailed travel guides as well as a budget 3 week itinerary for Sri Lanka.

IS IT SAFE TO TRAVEL TO SRI LANKA?

We visited Sri Lanka in 2022 March and it was perfectly safe. The economic crisis in Sri Lanka is harsh and Sri Lankans want a better quality of life. Even though, protests against Sri Lankan government were ongoing and riots were on the streets, it was very quiet outside of Colombo. Even the protests in Colombo were peaceful and never aimed to harm people or tourists. We didn't experience anything bad or unsafe.

IS SRI LANKA OPEN FOR TOURISM?

Sri Lanka is open for tourism since the beginning of 2022. You just need to get your visa online. Fully vaccinated travelers are exempt from PCR tests on arrival in Sri Lanka and no quarantine is needed. You can check the detailed entry requirements for Sri Lanka here.

DO THEY SPEAK ENGLISH IN SRI LANKA?

Yes, most people speak English in Sri Lanka and it makes ravel in Sri Lanka very easy. In the past, Sri Laka was called Ceylon and it was ruled under the British Empire, so most Sri Lankans speak English.

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL TO SRI LANKA

Most popular places to visit in Sri Lanka experience a dry and hot weather between December-April. We visited Sri Lanka in March and April and the weather was amazing. It wasn't too hot and the rain was occasionally present, mostly in the evenings. The main touristic part of the island, which is the Central and Southwest of Sri Lanka experience a wet monsoon season from May to September, whereas it is the best time to visit East Sri Lanka.
